Art Filled Days and Reusable Art were designed to celebrate both modern day and vintage artists. Unlike many other similar sites who simply post drawings and illustrations that have gone out of copyright, I wanted to also celebrate and honor the original illustrators.
It was with that goal in mind that Reusable Art was born. It is sometimes a challenge to determine the illustrator and unfortunately many wonderful images are not attributed to an original artist. Whenever I can, I include the original illustrator along with the original publication the image appeared in.
This section of Art Filled Days further celebrates the artists of Reusable Art with information about the artists themselves. Additionally, from time to time I will be posting those artists for whom I cannot find information about their life. It does make me feel a bit ghoulish at times but the copyright status of vintage illustrations depends upon the artist having died prior to a certain date. What I have found surprising is how many of the illustrators lived quite long and productive lives. Unfortunately, like many artists throughout the ages, there are too many who died young at their own hand or from an illness.
I am more of a crafter than a formally-trained artist and will focus more on the life of each of the illustrators and artists. If you are looking for an academic conversation on the style and influences of each of the artists, there are a number of blogs written by people who are far more knowledgeable than I am and might be a better choice if you are looking for that level of information.
I hope you join me in meeting the artists of Reusable Art.
This blog is still in its early phases and I have not posted an illustrator profile yet. Please bear with me as I get this site fully up and running.
